“I had been a member of Total Fitness for several years but, as like lots of other people, I kept finding excuses not to go. Then I met Sam and, with the prospect of a holiday to Egypt with my in-laws looming, I decided it was time to take things more seriously.
From the start Sam understood my goals and set about ways to help me achieve them. She kept me motivated from the start and I was surprised at how quickly I began to see results and also at how much I now enjoyed going to the gym. I also found I was pushing myself harder as I didn’t want to let her down although even when you had had a bad week she was never judgemental and was always supportive and helped you get back on track.
It was an amazing feeling when I actually went on the holiday and the in-laws were commenting on how much more confidence I had and how much more toned I was. I even managed to get my husband interested in the gym again and he too had sessions with Sam.”
“I’d been going to different gyms for a number of years and had definitely made progress but, frustratingly, the amount of progress seemed disproportionate to the amount of time I spent in the gym. I’d thought about using a personal trainer but was worried about the cost and didn’t want a meathead screaming abuse at me while I did dozens of dumbbell curls.
Sam turned out to be the perfect choice. When we first met we discussed my past experiences of training, my goals and how they could be achieved. She tested my fitness and took measurements before our first session and continued to do this periodically so we could see that our sessions were being effective. She developed programmes for the sessions where we would work together and for those when I would train alone. Sam’s focus was always on technique when exercising and that it was more important to perform exercises correctly rather than with increasingly huge weights and this was an education for me.
She also stressed the importance of diet, resting rather than constantly being at the gym and doing more CV to improve my fitness. She was a great motivator, tolerated my moaning about certain exercises I didn’t like but would give me kick up the backside when this was required, which was often. She was always positive and enthusiastic and made changes to my physique and beliefs about training which have stayed with me. I couldn’t recommend her more highly.”
“I have had two children close together and, despite good weight loss after, I was struggling to lose that last little bit and to get myself back on track, not just going through the motions. Sam was great. She gave me routines to follow when I was at the gym on my own, advice about nutrition and, during our sessions together, she pushed me and worked all those muscles that I had long forgotten about. I increased my fitness back to the level I had before I had my babies!
With Sam’s input and experience she helped me drop a dress size, tone up and get fit enough to run a half marathon. Thanks for giving me back my figure and my confidence.”
“After being a member of a gym for many years, but then having 2 children, your priorities change, and time is at a premium! Despite reducing my days at work and planning to get fitter, it never seemed to happen, and I could never get to grips with the multitude of complicated machines and weights in the gym, or feel/ look any different.
I then enlisted the services of Sam, having discretely watched her training someone else. She provided the motivation and focus to get me fitter, trimmer and toned up. I also stopped having back pains and actually started to enjoy my exercise rather than feeling it a chore!.
Sam would keep the sessions varied and always managed to get that little bit extra out of you, far beyond what you would do if you were on your own! She was always friendly, flexible and never judgmental. Despite working hard the sessions remained enjoyable.
I also discovered running - something I previously thought incredibly boring. Soon, five minutes on a machine increased to 10km races, and then crazily a half marathon. Completing the Great North Run, in just over two hours was one of the best feelings of my life, and thanks to Sam’s constant encouragement and belief in me an achievable goal.”
“At first I was reluctant to go to a personal trainer but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I could have made. Sam was brilliant at encouraging you when you felt that you were struggling or starting to tire, which was just what I needed to keep me motivated.
The sessions were always changing, so I didn’t get bored from a repetitive programme, which would have happened if I wasn’t training with her. The sessions also gave me the encouragement to try equipment that normally I would have avoided. I soon noticed a difference in my stamina and strength as well as my body shape and I doubt that would have happened if it wasn’t for Sam’s influence. My friends obviously agreed with me as they signed up with her too.”
